Board Member

The Board of Thriving Southland Association Incorporated is seeking applications for three new Board members. Could this be you?

Thriving Southland does amazing things in our community, supporting 37 Catchment Groups, 2000 local members of those Groups and covering 97% of the Southland area. We’re looking for dynamic, passionate individuals, who care deeply about Southland and our grassroots approach to economic, wellbeing and environmental improvements.

Applications close 14 October and election takes place at the AGM on 20 November.
This appointment is for 3 years starting November 2024.

Role of the Board

The Board’s role is to effectively represent, and promote the interests of, Thriving Southland. Members direct and supervise the management of the business and affairs of Thriving Southland including. 

Strategy

  • Ensure the Thriving Southland goals are clear, and we have strategies to achieve them. 

  • Ensure appropriate policies for Thriving Southland are in place.

  • Ensure Thriving Southland has appropriate risk management/regulatory compliance policies in place.

Financial

  • Decide on steps to protect Thriving Southland financial position and the ability to meet its obligations. 

  • Ensure Thriving Southland financial statements are true and fair and conform with law.

Leadership

  • Monitor and review the performance of management.

  • Ensure Thriving Southland adheres to high standards of ethics and corporate behaviour.

What is expected from you

It’s important you carefully review all papers sent to you for meetings and to make decisions objectively in the interests of Thriving Southland. The Board as a whole is collectively responsible for the success of Thriving Southland. In the normal course of events, day-to-day management of the Thriving Southland is left to management. 

Timing and location of board meetings, and time commitment

 The Thriving Southland Board meets minimum six times a year so there is a small-time commitment. It can also hold additional meetings as the occasion requires. The in-person meetings typically run for four hours during the day with alternate online meetings held in the evening for two hours. You will receive the Board papers for the meeting one week prior. In addition to routine board meetings, you should allow for preparatory work and travel and ensure that you are able to make the necessary overall time commitment.

Remuneration
