APARIMA COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT (ACE) PROJECT

Exploring future solutions

With increased awareness of our impact on land and water as well as shifting consumer behavior, there is a real opportunity for the food & fibre sectors to meet these challenges.

The ACE project is working alongside a vanguard of sheep, beef, and dairy farmers and farm system experts to explore alternative farming systems and environmental mitigations that can comply with a wide range of regulations. The focus will be on working with catchment farmers to identify practical alternative systems and solutions that can be implemented by others to achieve optimal production and environmental outcomes.

Again this is an info booklet we hope to mail out to all Aparima Farmers one day.

Use it to increase the ACE brand/project awareness.

Do you know what your farm will look like in the future?

The ACE Future Farming Workstream has five farms within the Aparima FMU, that have investigated how to make changes to their farming systems to reduce their environmental footprints. Models (Overseer and Farmax) have been used to show what these changes would do to the environmental footprints, as well as how they would impact the profitability of the farms.

A whole spectrum of changes have been modelled, from small changes to optimise the current farm system and to retire non-effective land, through to significant changes such as building infrastructure, going organic or changing the farm system entirely. The learnings from this workstream are relevant to all and we look forward to sharing them with you.
